When Your Mind Says "Run" and Your Body Says "You're Safe."

The distance between who you are and what you think is only clear when your nervous system is regulated.

My brain deserves an award. Not for solving problems but for creating deluxe, high-definition, surround-sound catastrophes. 🎬

The last few months have included challenges with my son, finding a place to live, considering moving to another country, lawyers, court proceedings, and somehow continuing to show up every day for a demanding full-time job.

      According to my mind…

      🚨 Everything is urgent.
🚨 Everything needs a decision today.
🚨 If I sit down for five minutes, civilization may collapse.

My mind turns uncertainty into an asteroid heading for Earth. It’s very committed to the role.
But something fascinating happens when I interrupt the performance.
I stop. I look out the window. I breathe.
And instead of asking my mind what it thinks… I ask my heart how it feels.
      The answer: Silence. Then… peace.

My overthinking mind insists: “You’re in denial. You’re not taking this seriously enough.”
My nervous system reaffirms: “You’re safe. One step at a time. Respond. Don’t react. You’ve got this.”
That voice doesn’t shout. It doesn’t panic. It doesn’t demand. It simply knows.

For years, I thought anxiety was intuition, overthinking was responsibility, controlling everything was strength. Now I see something completely different.
A dysregulated nervous system doesn’t just change how we feel. It changes what we believe is true.
Suddenly, every problem becomes an emergency. Every unknown becomes danger. Every pause feels irresponsible. And we react instead of respond. We let others control our choices.

But when the nervous system settles… you simply stop seeing it through the smoke alarm.
And beneath all the noise, you remember something that fear never tells you: You are far wiser than your panic.

So if you don’t know what to do next… don’t make your frightened mind the CEO.
Give your nervous system a chance to clock out first.
Breathe. Come back to the present. Then listen again.
Because fear has the loudest microphone… But peace has the better advice. ❤️
