Breakups: The Olympic Sport of Creative Interpretation
People understand and believe whatever feels most convenient in the moment.💔
They say: “I don’t want you anymore.
We hear: “I am deeply afraid of how intensely I love you and will return after personal growth, therapy, and a dramatic rain scene.”And just like that, we relocate to an alternative reality. 👽Population: us.
We analyze tone.
We reread old messages like ancient prophecies.
We investigate social media like unpaid detectives with unlimited Wi-Fi.
We send “casual” messages that required 47 drafts and one emotionally stable friend.
All in the noble hope of controlling an outcome that has already packed its bags. But here is the unromantic, deeply inconvenient truth:
When a relationship ends, when someone leaves, goes silent, or says goodbye, we need to acknowledge it.
It is their choice. And that choice is not negotiable. No amount of words, calls, messages, late-night essays, or strategic begging will make someone choose what they have already chosen not to choose.
So let’s save our energy and move on with our lives.Closure is not something they give us.
It is something we get when we stop uselessly negotiating with reality.
And yes, it hurts.
But It hurts less if we stop trying to hold on to something that only exists in our imagination. Some things are to be accepted just as they are.
Then we can finally retire from the exhausting role of CEO of Delusion Incorporated.❤️🩹0:29
