Love is a practice
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” —Martin Luther King Jr.
When I read these words, I don’t just think of history—I think of “everyday life”.
The hard conversations.
The family tension.
The comments that sting.
The moments when my nervous system wants to go into fight, freeze, or shut down.Love, in those moments, isn’t a soft sentiment.
Love is a “practice”.It’s pausing before I react.
It’s choosing truth “without cruelty.”
It’s setting boundaries “without hatred.”
It’s remembering that healing—personal and collective—doesn’t happen through shame… it happens through presence. And sometimes “being the light” doesn’t mean being cheerful.
It means being steady.
Being honest.
Being willing to repair.
Being willing to see the humanity in myself and others—even when it’s messy.Today, I’m asking myself a simple question:
“Where can I bring light instead of heat?”If that resonates, you’re invited to ask it too.
